South Africa In West Indies: The Proteas Are Likely To Dominate T20
Ahead of the first T20 match between South Africa and West Indies, Gayle will have to take some smart decisions, if he wants to compete.
Although, like the hosts, SA also did not qualify for the semi-final, at the T20 World Cup many of their players performed well. For instance, Langeveldt took a lot of wickets and Steyn was always a threat. Both Kallis and Smith had a few good starts, while De Villiers was consistent with the bat.
Contrast that with the Windies’ performance. Barring the 98 that Gayle made against India, there was no other outstanding innings. Sarwan, Chanderpaul and Bravo got twenties aplenty, and Pollard was wasted, down the order.
Where is Fidel Edwards? He can be an asset, especially in T20, as he demonstrated in IPL 2. Also, there is a strong case for having Pollard open with Gayle. With the field up, Pollard is more likely to score in the power play overs; more importantly, he is less likely to be caught in the outfield, with only 2 players outside the circle.
