Video: Tomas Berdych and Lucie Safarova, the Romantic Tennis Couple
There have many tennis couples, such as Steffi Graf and Agassi, and Evert and Connors, but no other pairing has captured the romantic imagination of tennis fans, as Tomas Berdych and Lucie Safarova have done.
A major reason for this is that this lovey dovey couple played mixed doubles for many years, and celebrated their wins with on court kisses.
But sadly for tennis fans who loved to watch this made-for-each-other pair on court, they no longer play mixed doubles, after Safarova’s singles career took off with her entry into the quarter final entry at the 2007 Australian Open.
Lucie Safarova, 22. is a reputed player on the WTA Tour, and is ranked within the world’s top 30. She has four WTA tour singles to her credit, apart from a quarter final at the 2007 Australian Open.
Berdych and Safarova have known each other from childhood. They grew up playing tennis in the same club in the town of Prostejov. The couple continue to practice at the club.
Both of them feel that their 7-year old relationship has actually helped theior tennis careers.
They have travelled, practiced and played together, and because they know each other so well, it has only helped them to grow as individuals and players.
