EPL Match Preview: Newcastle United Vs Aston Villa

| August 22, 2010

Newcastle back in the Premier League, after a spell of relegation, play their first home match, as they host Aston Villa at St James’ Park, today.

Danny Guthrie, with a knee injury, and Peter Lovenkrands, with a groin problem, both of whom missed out on the Manchester United match, last week, will undergo late checks on their match fitness.

Newcastle manager, Chris Hughton will also be hoping Sol Campbell will return against Aston Villa, but Gosling and Taylor with knee and shoulder concerns, respectively, and Simpson and Best with ankle injuries are certain to miss out.

For Aston Villa, midfielder Stephen Ireland could begin his Premiership career with the Villans, against Newcastle.

Ireland has come in from Manchester City as part of an exchange deal for James Milner.

Milner left for City after playing in Villa’s first match against West Ham, on the opening day of the Premiership season.

Villa should see the return to action of goalkeeper Brad Friedel, along with full-back Luke Young, winger Ashley Young and midfielder Stiliyan Petrov, as also striker John Carew recovered from a knee injury.

But injury problems persist for central defender Carlos Cuellar and forward Gabriel Agbonlahor, both hamstring.

Midfielder Steve Sidwell has an Achilles heel concern, while another central defender James Collins is nursing a calf injury) and (hamstring) are under treatment.
