Tri Nation, 6th ODI: Video, Sehwag’s 13th Century Takes India to Final
At the Tri Nation Series being hosted by Sri Lanka, at the Rangiri Dambulla Stadium, India and New Zealand played a crucial knock out clash, on August 25, in which, Sehwag scored his 13th ODI Century and ensured that India reach the finals.
Sri Lanka, who thrashed India in the 5th ODI of this series, have already made it to the final. The final will be played on 28th August.
Virender Sehwag, who opened the innings with Karthik, scored 110 of 93 balls, which comprised of 16 fours and a six.
In the first match against Sri Lanka, Sehwag was batting on 99* and was denied a century; that was when Randiv bowled the controversial no-ball that has been in the news ever since.
After winning the toss, India elected to bat first. India lost Sehwag in the 32nd over and the scoreboard read 172/5.
Apart from Sehwag, Captain Dhoni was the only one to make a substantial contribution of 38. Apart from these two, Ravindra Jadeja scored 17, and was the only other player to score in double figures. In the 46th over, India were all out for 223.
The bowlers had a lot of work to do in the middle, trying to defend a small score. Praveen Kumar and Ashish Nehra bowled a brilliant opening spell, to skittle the top order batting line up of New Zealand.
The bowlers struck almost every alternate over and New Zealand’s batting line-up collapsed, with the scoreboard reading 41/6, in just the 16th over. Having batted just 30 overs, New Zealand were all out for 118. Kumar and Patel bagged 2 wickets each. Nehra bowled brilliantly giving away only 10 runs in his 6 overs while striking twice
For the benefit of all Cricket fans, we are posting a video showing all the New Zealand dismissals. The Indian bowlers did a marvellous job to get them all out at 118! Watch the video now -
