Race For The Scottish Premier League: Kilmarnock Vs Celtic
Kick Off:- 12:45 GMT, Sunday 8 May 2011
Rugby Park, Kilmarnock
Celtic were dealt a devastating blow to their title aspirations at Inverness on Wednesday evening, going down 3-2.. For years now, for some strange unfathomable reason, Celtic just really, really struggle against Caley and are just as likely to lose as win. With that result, Celtic have placed themselves very much second-favourites for the title…

Kilmarnock, like ICT on Wednesday have nothing to play for other than the sheer delight all SPL teams take when taking points off the Old Firm. Their form coming into this game is irrelevant and all the pressure’s off them and heaped onto Celtic to absolutely cannot afford to lose or even draw this. If ever there was a definition of a must-win game, this is it.
Kilmarnock’s last 5 game record reads…
[Kilmarnock’s score first]
30 April Home 2-2 vs Heart of Midlothian (SPL)
23 April Away 2-4 vs Dundee United (SPL)
20 April Home 0-4 vs Celtic (SPL)
9 April Home 1-1 vs Inverness Caledonian Thistle (SPL)
2 April Away 0-0 vs St Johnstone (SPL)
Celtic’s last 5 game record reads…
[Celtic’s score first]
4 May Away 2-3 vs Inverness Caledonian Thistle (SPL)
1 May Home 4-1 vs Dundee United (SPL)
24 April Away 0-0 vs Rangers (SPL)
20 April Away 4-0 vs Kilmarnock (SPL)
17 April Hampden 4-0 vs Aberdeen (Scottish Cup)
Looking at the run-in it’s difficult to see where Rangers will lose points, and with Celtic still to go to Tynecastle to face Hearts it’s equally difficult to see how Celtic will not drop more points.
Rangers’ run-in…
Saturday 7 May 2011 Home Heart of Midlothian
Tuesday 10 May 2011 Home Dundee United
Saturday 14 May 2011 Away Kilmarnock
Celtic’s run-in…
Sunday 8 May 2011 Away Kilmarnock
Wednesday 11 May 2011 Away Heart of Midlothian
Sunday 15 May 2011 Home Motherwell
All Celtic can do now is win the game in front of them and hope that somehow, somewhere, Rangers will slip up. Celtic have slipped up once to often this season, and will probably pay the price for that, but if Neil Lennon has anything about him at all, he’ll surely get the Hoops back to winning ways with a victory here at Rugby Park, where they won 4-0 only a couple of weeks ago.
Celtic to win.
