World Athletics Championships: Schedule Of Events
The world athletics championships begin in Daegu, Korea, on Saturday, August 27, 2011. The mega event will go on till its culmination on September 4. Here’s a schedule of events highlighting the best on offer:
August 27
The first medals of the world athletics championships will be won in the women’s marathon scheduled for the opening day. The runners will battle each other as well as heat and humidity. Other events scheduled on the day are the women’s 10,000m, and decathlon events.

August 28
On the second day, we will find out who is the fastest man in the world, in the 100m final. The 400m will feature Oscar Pistorius , a double amputee. The decathlon finals will be held on this day along with men’s discus, men’s 10,000m, women’s long jump, and the finals of the Men’s 20km walk.
August 29
On day three , there’s twin excitement in store with both the the men’s 110m hurdles final and women’s 100m final set to take place. Other events include men’s pole vault, women’s 400m final, women’s shot put and the finals of the men’s hammer event.
August 30
Day four will be highlighted by the men’s 800m final; all eyes will be on Kenya’s David Rushida who will bid to break his own world record. Women’s pole vault, men’s discus, women’s pole vault, men’s discus, women’s 3,000m steeplechase and the finals of the heptathlon are the many other attractions on the day.
August 31
This will be a quiet day at the championships with the women’s 20km walk the only scheduled event, with Russia’s Olga Kaniskina expected to take gold.
September 1
A thrilling finish is expected in the men’s high jump. The men’s and women’s 400m hurdles, women’s triple jump, men’s steeplechase and women’s 1,500m will light up day six.
September 2
The women’s 200m is a much anticipated event in which USA’’s Allyson Felix will bid to win her fourth world title.
British hopes Chris Tomlinson can compete with the best long jumpers when he’s on form. Goldie Sayers has a chance in the javelin. Men’s shot put, men’s long jump, women’s javelin, women’s 5,000m, and men’s 4x400m relay are the other events set to take place on day seven.
September 3
The men’s 200m will be watched with excitement as Usain Bolt could win his second gold of this year’s event. Other events on the calendar are men’s javelin, women’s high jump, women’s 4x400m relay, men’s 1,500m, men’s 50km walk and women’s 100m hurdles.
September 4
Caster Semenya will attempt to retain her women’s 800m gold on what promises to be an entertaining day nine, that will also feature the 4x100m. The day will also mark the finals of the men’s marathon, apart from women’s 4x100m relay, men’s triple jump, women’s hammer and men’s 5,000m.
