Manchester City thrashed Wolves 5-2 in their Carling Cup encounter, midweek, and will be aiming to repeat the feat when Wolves travel to the Etihad Stadium, in match week 10, of the Premier League, on Saturday, October 29, 2011.
Last season’s match at the same venue ended 4-3 in the hosts’ favour. With a huge win of 6-1 against Manchester United in match week nine of the Premier League, City will be hoping to continue in the same aggressive vein against Mick McCarthy’s side.
The striking trio of Dzeko, Aguero and Balotelli have been the bane of City’s rivals this season, and with brilliant support from David Silva and Nasri, though Milner who was brilliant against United, in the Manchester Derby last week, could be preferred to Nasri. Wolves’ back-line will have its task cut out trying to stop the juggernaut. Barry and Toure have been exceptional in central midfield, and with their defence in the sound hands of Lescott and Kompany, Manciniu’s wards appear to be the most balanced team in the Premiership, with strength oozing from all areas.
While Man City have won all of their last five games, Wolves have had just the solitary draw among four losses in their own last five. Against City, on Saturday, Wolves will depend on wingers Hammill and Jarvis to fire in their crosses, while relying on striker Kevin Doyle to deliver in front of the City goal. Nenad Milijas has proved to be more than useful in Wolves’ midfield and has struck a few goals himself.
Ahead of the game, City’s Owen Hargreaves and Wolves’ Steven Fletcher both with calf strains are on the injury list as is Wolves’ defender Kevin Foley who needs surgery on his knee that could keep him out of football action till December.
McCarthy could toy with idea of giving Guedioura a start, after he replaced Hammill to showcase an impressive performance in last week’s 2-2 draw with Swansea.
Manchester City’s probable eleven: Hart, Clichy, Kompany, Lescott, Richards, Barry, Toure, Aguero, Silva, Milner, Balotelli
Wolves’ probable eleven: Hennessey, Johnson, Ward, Stearman, Berra, O’Hara, Jarvis, Hammill, Henry, Ebanks-Blake, Doyle
