In fact, it was Anichebe’s first league goal in 22 months that transpired when he pounced on a poor header from Paul Scharner on 86 minutes, and scored at close range. Serving Toffees’ cause, West Brom did not have a single shot at the rival goal, barring Peter Odemwingie’s dipping volley that went over the bar. Everton did not create many chances either with Magaye Gueye coming closest to scoring with a volley that the West Brom keeper had no difficulty keeping out.
In match week 19, Bolton hosted Wolves to a 1-1 stalemate. The result pushed Bolton to the bottom of the league. Bolton took the lead when Sam Ricketts returning to the side after 10 months missed owing to injury effected a curling shot into Wolves’ goal. But Wolves levelled the score after the break when Matt Jarvis’s cross was headed in by Fletcher.
