Man City Aim To Stay Ahead With Big Win Against Blackburn

| February 24, 2012

Manchester City would be aiming for a big win when they host Blackburn in match week 26, on Saturday, February 25, 2012, to keep the lead on the Premier League points table.

To find out what time the match between Man City and Blackburn is due to kick off, take a look at the EPL schedule.

City are coming off a 1-0 away win away against Aston Villa in match week 25. The win came on the back of a solitary goal scored by Joleon Lescott and the result helped Manchester City return to the top of the table. Before the match they were a point adrift of Man United, and they had an early scoring opportunity that Adam Johnson squandered when his scoring attempt hit the post. Villa hung on grimly against the vaunted City attack and it was just over an hour when James Milner’s corner resulted in a close range hook from Lescott that beat the Villa keeper, in a match that was a story of missed opportunities for City.

Blackburn prevailed 3-2 in a hard-fought contest against QPR, in match week 25. Yakubu’s return to the team after serving a three-game suspension proved a blessing for Rovers when his free kick from 18 yards out as swept by Nzonzi to put his side ahead on 23 minutes.  Onuoha made it 2-0 with an own goal before the interval when he deflected an angled shot from Junior Hoilett. QPR staged a late rally but it wasn’t enough as Rovers took full three points from the game to get out of the relegation zone.

Man City have won 7, drawn 2 and lost 1 of their last 10 league matches, while Blackburn have won 3, drawn 2 and lost 5 of their last 10 games.

Currently at the top of the league table, City have hosted 12 home games, this season, winning all of them; Rovers who are 17th placed on the table, on the edge of the relegation mire, have had 1 win, 6 draws and 5 losses, in their 12 away games.

The sides have met 20 times in the the league, in the last 10 years; City have won 7 of those, while Blackburn have won 5, with the remaining 8 games ending in stalemates.

Man City are overwhelming favourites to win the game but would be wary against Blackburn who shocked Man United away at Old Trafford, in December.

Man City’s starting eleven against Aston Villa: Hart, Kompany, Zabaleta, Lescott, Kolarov, Milner, Johnson, Barry, Silva, De Jong, Aguero.

Blackburn’s starting eleven against QPR: Robinson, Olsson, Dann, Orr, Hanley, Formica, Pederson, Nzonzi, Lowe, Hoilett, Yakubu.
