IPL 5 Preview: Deccan Chargers Vs Pune Warriors Match 42

| April 30, 2012

PW Deccan Chargers will seek redemption against Pune Warriors when they host Ganguly’s men on Tuesday, May 1, 2012, after a humiliating loss to Mumbai Indians. Pune are also going through a rough patch having lost three games in a row after a brilliant start to their IPL campaign.

DC scored their first win of the tournament against PW last week and that momentum was all but frittered away with an abject performance against Mumbai. Chargers made a shocking error by omitting skipper Sangakkara from the playing eleven on a sub-standard wicket on which the other batsmen could score just 100.

That said, the DC batting appears to have settled down with the likes of Dhawan, Patel and White getting among the runs. The team’s real worry is in its bowling with Steyn the lone exception. Of late, youngsters VP Singh and Reddy have given good support though Mishra is yet to hit his stride. The side would be well served by giving Ankit Sharma a call.

For PW, Uthappa has clicked with some consistent scores at the top of the order. Barring Ryder and Smith, the other batsmen have had starts but not converetde them to big scores often enough, with skipper Gangiuly among the offenders. Samuels is another player who has disappointed with the bat and could lose his place in the eleven to Mathews.

The bowling attack seems not to have recovered from Dinda’s absence though Alonso thomas has done an admirable job leading the attack. while Kartik has been economical, he has not had wickets to show for his efforts. Samuels has been mediocre, while Nehra has benefited from Hobson’s choice, given the lack of options at Ganguly’s disposal, though the skipper is yet to consider Smith and Ryder.

Sangakkar is expected to come good and prove a point or two to the team management on a wicket expected to aid batsmen. Home advantage should make DC favourites against PW whose campaign appears to have come unraveled.

DC’s probable eleven: Patel, Dhawan, Sangakkara, White, Duminy, Jaggi, Sharma, Reddy, Mishra, Steyn, Singh.

PW’s probable eleven: Ryder, Pandey, Uthappa, Ganguly, Smith, Mathews, Manhas, Thomas, Kartik, Sharma, Nehra.
