Olympics Tennis Seeding: Federer, Azarenka Top List
Federer and Azarenka are at the top of the list of seeds for the London 2012 Olympics Tennis Event announced by the International Tennis Federation.
Tennis at the Olympics will be held at the All England Club, at Wimbledon, and will run from July 28 to August 5. The draw is due to be held on July 26, at 11 am. The seeds are based on the ATP and WTA rankings; accordingly, Serbia’s Novak Djokovic, who won bronze at the Beijing Olympics, is seeding second behind the Swiss Federer, in the men’s singles. Britain’s Murray and Spain’s Ferrer are seeded third and fourth. Injury has kept defending champion, Spain’s Rafael Nadal, out of the tournament. Federer, who is yet to win an Olympics medal in the singles event, won gold in the doubles, with Wawrinka as his partner.
Azarenka representing Belarus is followed by Poland’s Radwanska in the women’s seeding; Sharapova and Serena Williams are seeded third and fourth, respectively.
USA’s Bryan brothers, Bob and Mike are top seeds for the men’s doubles, while Swiss defending champions Federer and Wawrinka are seeded sixth. In the women’s doubles, USA’s Liesel Huber and Lisa Raymond are top seeded, while their compatriots and defending champions, the Serena and Venus Williams, are unseeded.
