The T20 Champions League is set to begin — with qualification matches — on Tuesday, October 9, and many players such as Kieron Pollard, Mike Hussey and Morne Morkel have chosen to play for their IPL teams rather than their home teams.

This year’s edition of the tournament will have six new teams entering the fray, these are two from Australia, Sydney Sixers and Perth Scorchers, two from England, Hampshire Royals and Yorkshire Tykes, one from Pakistan, the Sialkot Stallions, and one from South Africa, the Nashua Titans. The group stage of the tournament is due to start on October 13.

Pollard who represents Trinidad & Tobago, back home in the West Indies, has chosen to turn out for Mumbai Indians in this year’s edition of the Champions League. Likewise, Mike Hussey has chosen Chennai Super Kings over Perth, and Morne Morkel has opted for Delhi Daredevils over Titans.

Titans will be further depleted, with Faf du Plessis and Albie Morkel choosing to play for the Super Kings; Trinidad & Tobago are set to lose the services of Dwayne Bravo and Sunil Narine to CSK and KKR, respectively. Furthermore, MI and KKR will benefit from the decisions of Brett Lee and Mitchell Johnson to represent those teams instead of their home teams from Australia.

A player can qualify to represent more than one team and the rules allow all respective qualifying teams to nominate such a player. However, such nomination comes at a price – the “away” team must pay the “home” team $150,000 for the privilege, as stated by Dean Kino, the Champions League’s director of legal and business affairs.

The following teams will feature in this year’s contest:

Auckland Aces: Andre Adams, Bates, Cachopa de Grandhomme, Guptill, Hira, Hopkins, Kitchen, McClenaghan, Mahmood, Martin, Martin, Mills, Munro, Vincent.
